ZESCO STILL IN TITLE CONTENTION, WERE

FAZ/MTN Super League Champions, ZESCO United striker Jesse Were feels the club is still in contention for the title despite drawing 1-1 against Kansanshi Dynamos in a week 25 rescheduled game.

Were who scored the equalizer after the champions conceded through a Clement Mwape own goal believes the team has enough ammunition to retain the coveted trophy.

“I think what is crucial is retaining game fitness. It is not easy staying without playing football for over four months and getting instant match fitness. The boys are working hard because they know that there are only a few games to go before close of the season.”

The Kenyan international striker applauded the technical bench for their effort to ensure that the team gets back in shape.

“Today(Yesterday) the technical bench has organised a strong friendly game against Power Dynamos. This is very good for me and the lads to get in shape. This game has helped us understand where we are lacking as a team and the things we need to do correctly.

We are hoping that the coach could find another good friendly in midweek which will be crucial as we prepare for our next game against Lusaka Dynamos.”

Meanwhile Were says the team is ready for their next away game against Lusaka Dynamos.

“It will be a tough game but I think for us it is crucial that we start collecting maximum points. We are currently fighting to get back to the top of league table, which won’t be easy. But we know that the gap is not too big for us to catch-up,” he said.

The Zambian FAZ/MTN Super League season resumed on July 18 having been temporally halted following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
